On 16-17 July 2011, the National Indoor Arena will be transformed into 28 badminton courts to stage a mass participation event encouraging families – including a mix of children, adult beginners and social players – to experience all the benefits that playing badminton can offer.

The ‘badminton bonanza’ – run in association with proud official partner, Yehlex UK – is open to the general public of all ages and all sporting ability.

Birmingham City Council Cabinet Member for Leisure, Sport and Culture, Cllr Martin Mullaney, said: “This is a great mass participation event and hopefully Birmingham residents will take the opportunity to enjoy a fantastic family-friendly sport.”

The weekend will feature 4 separate levels of on court activity to take part in ensuring participants enjoy badminton at a suitable level and maximise their enjoyment on the day:

  • Under 14 & Under 16s – beginner, social and league competitions
  • Adults – beginner, social and league competitions
  • Over 40s – social and league competitions
  • Family competition

Organisers are expecting record numbers of entries this year so to join in the fun at this ever popular event, visit: www.badmintonengland.co.uk/bonanza  (Entry Deadline: 17 June 2011).

The action starts at 10am each day with the knock out stages expected to run through to 7pm.  Entry fees start from as little as £6.

Andrew Mitchell, Marketing Manager for BADMINTON England stated “The Birmingham Badminton Bonanza is now into its 6th year and continues to offer a fantastic, great value opportunity to get involved in an Olympic sport within a relaxed, laid back atmosphere.”

“Last year’s bonanza saw over 600 people enter and the badminton community in the West Midlands is thriving so Birmingham is perfect as a host city for the 2011 Badminton Bonanza Series, alongside Liverpool and London”.

The 2011 Badminton Bonanza series aims to encourage 1,000 people of all age and ability onto 62 courts at 3 different venues in 3 different cities in June and July.
